Nancy Pelosi Kills Resolution Honoring Michael Jackson

Nancy Pelosi has done the impossible.  She’s made me agree with her.

Thursday, the speaker of the house killed the notion of any resolution honoring pop star Michael Jackson who, in case you missed it, passed away last Friday.  Lawmakers, she said, are able “to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish.  I don’t think it’s necessary for us to have a resolution.”

She then went on to say that “A resolution, I think, would open up to contrary views to — that are not necessary at this time to be expressed in association with a resolution whose purpose is quite different.”

So…does that mean she squashed the idea in order to spare our fragile ears from any more talk about the late popstar’s pedophilia problems, or was it really to spare house members the ugly responsibility of taking a stand on a measure that could become a racially charged issue?

Perhaps she was trying to save Republican Rep. Peter King from the trouble of making more Youtube videos of himself.

No matter.  Whatever the reason, she got this one right.  Jackson was not a man worthy of such an honor, so whatever your motives were Nancy, I salute you.
